KILKIE is an Irish family whose descendants spread to Scotland, then to England and then worldwide. The family is often seen as a Scottish family as "most" current Kilkie's live in Scotland or were born in Scotland, but we are by origin Irish and a number of KILKIE families still live around our origin in Northern Ireland. In common with most Irish families our actual origins are lost in the mists of time often by the thoughtless destruction of the few records that existed.
This site charts the progress of the family to discover its roots and connections and the history and geography of our family. Current family research has clear evidence that ALL living KILKIE individuals trace their ancestry back to an area of a few miles around Derry in Northern Ireland.
Most of the site is open to all, but members of the family share a closed area where more private and personal information can be shared. If you feel you are "a KILKIE" register on the site and we welcome you into the community.
We also document connected families including branches of Boyle, Docherty, Ehemann, Field, Halliday, Kelly and Wright. (alphabetic order, all as important as each other!)
The site is under constant development and thus is subject to regular change. We do our best to make sure it is always presentable, but mistakes happen.
For reference, the lady above is Mary Kilkie (nee Waters), born 18 Main Street, Gorbals, Glasgow on the 21 Feb 1873 and died 2nd Feb 1944 in Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow.
